Congratulations
to Melissa Maston, RHIA, CCS
The 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Member award is
Melissa Maston, RHIA, CCS. Melissa has been an active member
with AHIMA for over twenty-five years and of that, 20 years
in the West Virginia association. Melissa is currently
working for WVU Healthcare in Morgantown, WV as, Manager of
Enterprise Systems Applications.
Melissa has always been an extremely active member with
WVHIMA. She has held several offices, such as, President,
Secretary and Treasurer to name just a few. She has also
served on numerous committees, public relations, nominating,
bylaws, and annual convention. Melissa’s contributions to
Health Information Management go well beyond holding offices
and volunteering her time to committees. She has been a
consultant for dialysis units, written an article for the
WVHIMA newsletter regarding progression programs in Health
Information Management, as well as, a past educator during
our own WVHIMA meetings. Melissa’s passion and knowledge for
our program is evident at every meeting and conference. So
much, she serves on the advisory board at Pierpont Technical
College and has past served at West Virginia Northern
Community College.
Melissa has truly been an asset to WVHIMA and the HIM
profession. Congratulations Melissa, it is the associations
honor to name you as the 2011 Distinguished Member.
Award Application
Every year, WVHIMA recognizes one member for outstanding service within the organization. This award is known as the WVHIMA Distinguished member award. Nominations are accepted throughout the year until approximately
March 4th.
The nominations are tallied by a points system and the person nominated that receives the most points becomes the WVHIMA Distinguished Member for the year. A person may only receive the distinguished member award once in their lifetime.

To be eligible for nomination the candidates must have made an outstanding contribution to the WVHIMA profession in more than one of the following areas.

Service to WVHIMA Members

Outstanding achievement in professional practice

Contributions in research or published materials.

Leadership in education
Candidates for WVHIMA distinguished member must have been an active member of WVHIMA for eight years or longer.
Only one nomination per member per year is accepted.
